Hearts of the World/Coeurs du Monde at École Victor-Brodeur in Victoria BC.
Sylvie Rochette is an artist and sculptor based in Victoria who learned of French sculptor François Michaud’s project, and vowed to bring it to the West Coast.
An artist with a big heart!
There is a huge buzz surrounding Victoria’s École Victor-Brodeur these days. An artist has established himself in a temporary residency to create a heart… but not any heart!
Coeur du monde is a project born in the mind of French visual artist François Michaud, who started the creation of a permanent sculpture, a heart carved in cedar wood, on the premises of École Victor-Brodeur school.
Michaud has been crafting heart sculptures of different sizes and materials all over the planet, notably in China, France, Brazil and Mexico. This project has also been endorsed by many international cultural organizations including the German Television channel ARTE, who is currently producing a documentary on the artist.
This artistic creation has very specific educational goals. Victor-Brodeur students from kindergarden to grade 12 are invited to follow the progress of the sculpture and create personal projects on the theme of hearts: physical activity, ecology, team work and mutual support. It is also important to note the generous contribution of singer-songwriter and BC native, Aude Ray, who signed the creation of the Coeur du Monde song, specifically for this project.
Parents and community members are welcome to meet and greet the artist François Michaud during school hours.
The completion of the project is planned for March 7. Join the artist at 5 pm for a reception, and the launch of Aude Ray’s song, Coeur de Monde. Everyone is welcome!
