Since January 2013, a new cabaret has appeared on the busy performance calendar at the Victoria Event Centre (VEC) – Diversion is scheduled for the second Wednesday of the month, and is a fundraiser for the Victoria Multicultural Society who runs the VEC. Funds raised will help with improvements for this very busy venue.
This month’s cabaret features performing artists I’m familiar with (Missie Peters, performance poet; Ryan Bangra, comedian; Tasha Diamant, artist and activist) and some I will get to see for the first time. I’m happy to support efforts to improve a space that programmes such a wide diversity of shows and events, from Open Cinema to Atomic Vaudeville, Pecha Kucha to Philips Comedy Night, and Sin City to the Derwin Blanshard Extremely Classy Sunday Night Programme. Here’s one more reason to visit.
This month’s show is hosted by Bill Nance with performances by Johnny Bottomsworth, Paul McKinnon, Tasha Diamant, Ryan Bangma, Karina Devine, Daniel Francis, Missie Peters, Steph Butler, Hank Angel and Carilynn Nicholson.
Painter Amber Murnane will have her paintings on display.
Tickets $10 in advance at http://diversion2.eventbrite.ca/ or $15 at the door.
