Gaslight  to star Thea Gill and Adrian Hough

A star studded cast has been lined up to open Blue Bridge Repertory Theatre’s seventh season with its upcoming production of Patrick Hamilton’s 1938 classic Victorian thriller Gaslight. The first show of the theatre’s 2014-15 season will see the return of television, film and stage star Thea Gill, in the role made famous by legendary film star Ingrid Bergman. Ms. Gill is well known to local audiences for her critically acclaimed and award winning performances in the 2003 Belfry production of Proof and the 2010 Blue Bridge Repertory Theatre production of A Streetcar Named Desire and for her starring role in the legendary TV series Queer As Folk. Joining her in the role of her ‘dastardly’ husband Jack Manningham, will be another actor well known to television and film audiences, Adrian Hough. One of Vancouver’s busiest actors, Mr. Hough has an eclectic list of more than 100 film and television credits, including  ‘Canadian Bacon’, ‘The Fog’, ‘Xmen 3’, ‘Underworld 2’, ‘Charlie St Cloud’, ‘Rise of the Planet of the Apes’, ‘Stargate’, and ‘Klondike’.

Gaslight, in my opinion, is one of the most under rated British plays from the 1930’s” said the show’s director and Blue Bridge Artistic Director Brian Richmond. “It’s a taut Victorian thriller that has drawn the admiration of such high level actors and directors Stephen Fry and Martin Scorcese who have recently championed  the British film version of the work and cited it as one of the best films of the 1940’s. I couldn’t agree more and I think both the film, and the original stage play on which it is faithfully based, absolutely riveting. I am sure that it will delight audiences who are looking for a superlative example of an edge-of-the-seat- who-done-it during the Halloween season.”

Joining Ms. Gill and Mr. Hough will be some of the most talented members of the Blue Bridge acting ensemble. Taking on the role of the boisterous Detective Rough will be one of Victoria’s favourite actors and comedians, Wes Borg. Another Blue Bridge alumnus and former Royal Shakespeare Theatre Company ensemble member Iris MacGregor- Bannerman who will take on the role of the dutiful maid Elizabeth while newcomer Grace Vukovic will play the role made famous by the young Angela Lansbury – the saucy teenage maid Nancy.

Joining Richmond on the Creative team is Set Designer Bryan Kenney, Costume Designer Graham McGonagle, Lighting Designer Rebekah Johnson and Sound Designer Paul Tedeschini.

Gaslight runs from October 21 to November 2. Tickets for the production can be purchased at Ticket Rocket by phone at 250-590-6291, online at www.ticketrocket.org or in person at #2-1609 Blanshard St (at Fisgard)
