2nd ANNUAL FESTIVAL OFFERS DYNAMIC FAMILY ENTERTAINMENT
VICTORIA, B.C. —(April 14, 2013) The second annual Kaleidoscope Family Theatre Festival takes over Victoria’s Centennial Square and Fort Rodd Hill with a lineup of dynamic family entertainment.
Kaleidoscope’s festival features three main stage productions in Centennial Square from Theatre SKAM, SNAFU Dance Theatre, and Kaleidoscope’s Teen Ensemble from May 1-4. The festival continues from May 7-11 at Fort Rodd Hill & Fisgard Lighthouse National Historic Sites of Canada with Urban Arts’ Robinson & Crusoe.  The festival in Centennial Square is complimented by a rotating schedule of free entertainment including buskers, magicians, musicians, and face painters on May 3 & 4.
A teenage environmental activist grapples with love, loss, and extraterrestrials in Theatre SKAM’s Runaway. A bittersweet slice of life with a dash of humour and a pinch of song based on a 10-minute play written by Mika Laulainen & Rae Takei for Theatre SKAM’s 2012 Bike Ride.
SNAFU Dance Theatre’s SomethingVille is an absurd physical comedy set to classical music, inspired by Pixar, Dr. Seuss, and Sci-Fi films of the 1970s.
Snow White by Kaleidoscope’s Teen Performance Ensemble is an enchanting reimagined fairytale utilizing mask, puppetry, and a spark of imagination to bring the story to life.
Urban Arts’ Robinson & Crusoe throws two pilots, only one who speaks English, head on into a battle to survive and overcome cultural differences, all while stranded on a rooftop afloat in the sea.
The Family Theatre Festival closes Kaleidoscope Theatre’s 39th season which has included The Rocky Horror Show, and The Neverending Story.  Since 1974, Kaleidoscope Theatre has been the driving force behind Vancouver Island?s most beloved theatre experiences for young people and their families. Kaleidoscope’s 40th Anniversary Season will include: The Addams Family: The Broadway Musical, The Secret Garden, Alice in wonderland, and the world premiere play Camp-X along with the launch of the new Igloo Theatre.
