Mom’s The Word – Remixed! at the Belfry Theatre

Is there any wonder the moms involved in “Mom’s the Word – Remixed” have been able to make their living as performers?

The stories they tell are universal in their appeal – by turns funny, weird, heart breaking, gut-wrenching and side-splitting. We have all either been these moms or had a mom just like them.

Did the original six moms have any idea in 1993 when they originally created “Mom’s the Word” for the Vancouver Women in View festival just where it would take them? And just how much their stories would resonate with other parents?

Children grew from toddlers to tweens and teens.  The “Mom’s the Word” franchise followed their paths as mothers, leading to the creation of “Mom’s the Word – Unhinged” in 2005 and now “Mom’s the Word – Remixed”, appearing at the Belfry Theatre until August 21st (with a possible hold over).

This show opens to a hilariously physical birthing sketch, and touches on premature babies, marital infidelity, hockey parents, breast cancer, menopause, sex, aging bodies, family relationships, endless meals – life! Each actor brings her unique perspective and particular brand of fun to the telling of tales, taking her turn, supported by her fellow moms.

The set design highlights the chaos of modern family life – a wall of cubbies that open and close, where bath tubs pop out of nowhere, and a fridge is by turns closet or the door way to an illicit after-hours club.

“Every day I start out as Mary Poppins and end up as Cruella de Vil”?
“Anger is so loud, and love is so quiet”

I don’t know about you, but, I for one, can relate!
