What a range of plays to delight and challenge audiences.  I’ve been looking forward to seeing Janet Munsil’s adaptation of Pride and Prejudice since it was first mounted at the National Arts Centre in Ottawa in late 2012.  The Small Room at the Top of the Stairs is a first for Langham Court Theatre—a one act play! And, of course, cinephiles have been abuzz about the performances in this season’s August:Osage County—now they’ll have the opportunity to see the original work (by Tracey Letts) on which the film is based. If Dickens is one of your favourite authors, you’ll want to see The Mystery of Edwin Drood—his final un-finished work.  The season is rounded out with People, a drama by Alan Bennett, and the dark comedy Humble Boy by Charlotte Jones.

Fall in love all over again! Can Elizabeth overcome her pride and Darcy overcome his prejudice? Victoria’s own Janet Munsil has beautifully crafted the characters so that this beloved tale, set in Regency England, is more accessible, fresher and sparkling. As Munsil states, “Life doesn’t go the way you plan it, relationships are complicated, and love can sneak up on you.” Play of the Year 2012, Calgary. Come see this period treasure.
