Stand-Up Comedy Workshop with Kirsten Van Ritzen

If you could take stand-up comedy lessons with one of the very best performers in this genre in Victoria, would you?  Relatively new to Victoria (arriving in 2011) but with decades of experience on stages in Edmonton, Toronto and Vancouver, Kirsten Van Ritzen is better known to audiences locally for her on-going role as the ever-drole Ava Garter, the Snake Lady, in the improvised soap opera Sin City: Carnies, which recently completed its smash season.
Don’t these members of Kirsten’s recent Level Two class look like they had fun?

The class is the first of its kind in Victoria – and has proven to be immensely popular. Past participants are tearing it up on comedy stages around town, and have described the experience as: “inspiring”, “life changing” and “a weekly date with laughter.”

Instructor Kirsten Van Ritzen is a professional actor and comedienne, as well as a writer, director, and producer.  She has worked for two decades in the entertainment industry, specializing in all genres of comedy.  In Victoria, she delighted audiences as “Ava Garter” in SINCITY: CARNIES, the M-Award nominated improvised serial; she is a frequent performer at PHILLIPS COMEDY NIGHT, CAGE MATCH, GOTTA GETTA GIMMICK, and more.

Kirsten has taught for Toronto’s Second City Workshop Centre, Randolph Academy, Vancouver Theatresports, Kaliedoscope Performing Arts Studio, and currently teaches acting at Pacific Film and New Media Academy. 1. Hey Janis,
I took a level 1 class with Kirsten late last year and it was incredible. I learned about my reasons and methods of being funny. Can you believe somebody actually figured that stuff out? Kirsten’s class was filled with all levels of confidence as it related to the students public performance experience. She was able to coach even the greenest of performers to create a great comedy routine. Worth every penny and then some. Weeks of class topped off with a public performance. She’s one funny lady and a stellar teacher too.

Kirsten is a consummate performeer! I’m glad you not only enjoyed her classes, but learned a lot too, Anthony. Thanks for the endorsement.

      • Thank you Anthony for the endorsement! (He got an A+ ).

Janis more than a few people have contacted me about the comedy class “in June” – which confused me until I figured out they were referring to this 2012 blog posting! I even got a call from a lady in Edmonton. My Fall 2014 class is well underway – anyone interested in 2015 standup or improv workshops in Victoria – the dates will be posted at http://www.broadtheatrics.com/workshops.html

thanks again Janis for all your support!
