Clean Safe Community Picnic – Harris Green (1100 Block Pandora) Saturday August 21st 2010

A few days ago I received information about a community picnic being organized by two “ordinary” women in the 1100 block Pandora, Victoria BC, on Saturday August 21st.

Please support this initiative if you believe, as I do, that we benefit from creating the community we want to see.  Kudos to the women involved (who at this time are anonymous).

Clean Safe Community Picnic

Dear Neighbour:

We hope this letter finds you well and enjoying your summer. This season is a great time for socializing and for getting outside to meet the people in your neighbourhood. It’s a time for picnics and enjoying all of the green spaces
Victoria has to offer.

Please accept this invitation to enjoy the beautifully treed space of Harris Green, in the 1100 block of Pandora Street, and join us for a community picnic from 11am to 1pm on Saturday, August 21st. Bring your blankets, bocce balls (or other picnic-friendly games) and your favourite snacks. There will be a table for potluck items if you would like to bring food to share. We plan to have an art table so that kids can create pictures depicting some of
the great things about our neighbourhoods.

Why Harris Green?

Much attention and debate is going on around this areathat is made up of a diverse population of home and business owners, renters, families, retirees and young people, as well as those without a home, yet few of us know each other’s names. We’re all trying to find space to live our lives as best we can. We need to respect each other and figure out how to make this work, in a clean, safe and effective way. What better remedy than a neighbourhood picnic? Let’s get together and celebrate community and neighbours.

If you have any questions, would like to volunteer or donate supplies, please email harrisgreenpicnic@gmail.com.

Warm regards,

A couple of women who want a neighbourhood to be proud of.
