Dance Victoria requests proposals for 2017 Chrystal Dance Prize until November 15, 2016. (Media release)
Dance Victoria is now accepting proposals from western Canadian dance artists to be considered for the 2017 Chrystal Dance Prize for Independent Dance Artists.
This award is Canada’s richest dance prize for international collaboration supporting new works by independent dance artists living in Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Alberta, British Columbia or the Yukon who wish to work with a dance artist(s) (dancer, choreographer or interpreter) outside Canada.
In 2017, Dance Victoria will allocate up to $41,000 to the Chrystal Dance Prize, with $35,000 for Independent Dance Artists and $6,000 for Emerging Dance Artists (details for Emerging to come at a later date). The prize for Independent Dance Artists can include a two-week residency at Dance Victoria Studios and the potential of presentation in an upcoming Dance Victoria season.
The deadline for proposal submissions from Independent Dance Artists is November 15, 2016 at 4:00 p.m. Pacific Time.
The Chrystal Dance Prize is generated from a substantial bequest made by Dance Victoria patron, Dr. Betty “Chrystal” Kleiman, to the Victoria Foundation. A committee of dance professionals is assembled each year to select the recipients.
