New York City-based Jessica Lang Dance (JLD) opens the season on November 18 and 19, 2016 with five contemporary ballet works: Lines Cubed, Among the Stars, Mendelssohn/ Incomplete, The Calling, and Thousand Yard Stare. Called a “master of visual composition” (Dance Magazine), Lang is a former member of Twyla Tharp’s company (THARP!), and has created 90+ works for companies worldwide.

Canada’s Royal Winnipeg Ballet (RWB) performs their Canadian themed Nutcracker from December 2 through 4, 2016. A hockey game on a frozen pond, RCMP officers in a battle with the Rat King, technically stunning dancers, and gorgeous costumes make this production memorable. RWB’s 2014 production remains Dance Victoria’s top grossing show of all time.

BalletBoyz® returns by popular demand on January 20 and 21, 2017 with Life: two new commissions by Pontus Lidberg and Javier de Frutos and co-produced by London’s Sadler’s Wells. Performed by the all male cast of 10 dancers against an original music score, Life is a powerful and provocative look at life and death.

March 10 and 11, 2017 marks the long-awaited return of one of Victoria’s favourite dance companies: Alonzo King LINES Ballet. King’s works are in the repertoire of the Royal Swedish Ballet, Frankfurt Ballet, Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater, Hubbard Street Dance and more. Inspired by music and infused with refined aesthetics, his 12 dancers are renowned for their long lean lines and explosive athleticism.

The season concludes on April 7 and 8, 2017 with a Special 20th Anniversary Presentation of Les Grands Ballets Canadiens de Montréal performing Ohad Naharin’s Minus One. Dance Victoria is inviting the company back after 14 years to perform this remarkable work that brought Victorians to their feet when it was first performed in 2003.
