14th Annual Gallery Walk – Victoria BC
For some people, it is the plethora of craft fairs or musical events that signals the advent of the holiday season. For me, it has traditionally been Gallery Walk - an evening in late November, hosted by seven downtown Victoria art galleries who open their collections for viewing. This year's walk, the 14th annual, is Thursday November 24th from 3-8pm. Of note is the "passport" which participants in the walk can get stamped for a chance … [Read more...]
Lest We Forget – Remembrance Day 2011
"We will remember them.” Laurence Binyon. Although TS Eliot says that “April is the cruellest month”, for me it is November, when the late Victoria autumn, so warm this year, turns suddenly chilly and November 11th dawns inevitably grey and drizzly. From the top of Mill Hill looking down towards Parsons Bridge, ablaze in gold, their familiar shape distinct against the backdrop of Douglas firs and other conifers, sevenLombardy poplars … [Read more...]
TEDxVictoria – Cultivating Evolution
I was first introduced to Carol-Lynne Michaels, co-organizer of TEDx Victoria, by my friend and fellow Victoria Fringe volunteer, Rose Jang, who mentioned that we shared many ideas about community and connecting Carol-Lynne had just applied, with Dylan Wilks, another student in the Camosun College Applied Communication Program, for a license to host a TEDx event in Victoria. At the same time TEDx UVic, TEDx Juan de Fuca and TEDx Mile Zero … [Read more...]
A Weekend At Merridale Cider – Field to Table Dinner

On a previous visit to the Cowichan Valley, for Gourmet Gala, we'd been very impressed by the offerings from the cidery - flavourful artichoke dip, crusty breads baked in their own wood-fired brick oven, cider samples, and a taste of the new … [Read more...]
Gourmet Gala in the Cowichan Valley – a Success!
If attendance at Gourmet Gala October 1st is any indication, the Duncan Cowichan Chamber of Commerce deserves to be extremely proud. It was a big leap of faith to go from previous galas, held in much smaller venues, to this year's event, held in the brand-new Mellor Hall at the Cowichan Exhibition grounds. When the organizers learned that I would be celebrating a birthday, they graciously extended an invitation … [Read more...]
Gourmet Gala in the Cowichan Valley
We're thrilled to be guests of Gourmet Gala taking place in the Cowichan Valley Saturday October 1st, as a fundraiser of the Duncan Chamber of Commerce for a new regional visitor information centre. It's only in recent years that I've come to know the valley better. As a child growing up in Ucluelet, with grandparents in Victoria, there was no time for dawdling on the 6 hour trek between the two spots. … [Read more...]
