One of my favourite Victoria theatre companies, Theatre SKAM, is turning 17! And in inimitable SKAM fashion, they’ll have you partying like you are too. Where else would you be able to experience the Odd Fellows Hall (a heritage building located at 1315 Douglas) without being a member?

Complete with a games room (and pool tables) and the most beautifully decorated ceilings in Victoria outside the Legislative Assembly, your ticket (only $17 without the raffle or $67 with) gains you entry to the mysteries within.
And what would a party be without music. Groove to the sounds of Mike Demers and The Politics of Dancing.
What’s the deal with the whole competition thing? Let’s just say we’re bringing new meaning to the concept of a games room with competitive diversions to bring out the 17-year-old in everyone. Try your hand at a Buckaroo Lasso; battle it out for the fastest tack times at the Bike Ride Trike Race; test your brain power in the Memory Game, or drive amini-truck in the Pickup Target game – all based on recent and upcoming SKAM projects. Theatre SKAM has produced innovative, site-specific theatre since its inception in 1995 when four brave young theatre artists (Sarah Donald, Karen Turner, Amiel Gladstone and Matthew Payne) took a chance that audiences in Victoria and beyond were ready for something “out of the ordinary”. Since then they’ve staged 21 world premieres, had seven national tours, and won 16 awards with the latest being the 2010 Victoria’s Critic’s Choice Spotlight Award Best New Play for Smalltown: a Pickup Musical.
Recently, along with a number of other smaller performing arts groups in Victoria, SKAM made the news with an appeal for a “Santa” to help them mitigate the effects of government cut backs. This fundraiser is one way for the community to support SKAM and have a lot of fun doing it.
So, dust off your dancing shoes, and bring your best game this coming Saturday for the party of the year!
